since / for (süre) / so far / up to now / recently / over the past ten years → Present Perfect (have done). in 2003 / ago / last year / in the 17th century → Simple Past. by the time + geçmiş / before + geçmiş → Past Perfect (had done). by + gelecek zaman (by 2030) → Future Perfect (will have done). currently / at present / these days → Present Continuous.

YDS Tuzağı: 'Over the past ten years' geçmiş zaman gibi görünür ama şimdiye kadar süren bir dönemi anlattığı için Present Perfect ister. 'In the past ten years' de aynıdır; ama 'ten years ago' Simple Past ister.

Zaman Uyumu: Ana Cümle ve Yan Cümle

Geçmişte söylenen ya da duyurulan bir şey gelecekten bahsediyorsa 'would' kullanılır: 'In 2003, the foundation announced that the writer would receive the award.' Genel doğrularda ve rutinlerde iki taraf da Simple Present olabilir: 'You feel good when you see that you have made a difference.' 'when / after / as soon as' ile kurulan zaman yan cümlesinde 'will' kullanılmaz: 'I will call you when I arrive.'

YDS Tuzağı: Zaman yan cümlesinde (when, until, before, as soon as) gelecek anlamı Simple Present ya da Present Perfect ile verilir; 'when I will arrive' YDS'de her zaman yanlış şıktır.

Past Perfect: Geçmişteki İki Olaydan Önce Olanı

Geçmişte iki olay varsa daha önce olanı Past Perfect ile anlatılır: 'By the time the firefighters arrived, the building had collapsed.' 'before / after / by the time / until / when' ile sık kullanılır. Süreç vurgusu varsa Past Perfect Continuous: 'She had been working there for ten years when she was promoted.'

YDS Tuzağı: 'By the time' + Simple Past ise ana cümle Past Perfect; 'By the time' + Simple Present ise ana cümle Future Perfect olur: 'By the time you arrive, we will have finished.'
